Sitges has 17 beautiful sandy beaches with sun beds, umbrellas, pedallo boats and beach bars (some with live music playing in the evenings). The promenade is ideal for roller blading, skateboarding, bicycling and enjoying a stroll watching the sun go down over the Mediterranean. There are some good surfing beaches and surfboards and paddleboards can be rented. There is also a sailing club if you wish to sail a dingy or the marina where you can hire larger boats or eat in one of the marina restaurants. Sitges is a beautiful quaint Catalan fishing village with narrow streets, white washed houses, attractive old town and a mellow bohemian atmosphere. It is where many wealthy Barcelonians come for their weekends and holidays. There are many first class restaurants and bars as well as world renowned discotheques.
Sitges has attracted many artists and writers such as Picasso and Santiago Rusiñol and many wealthy traders brought holiday villas here in the 18th century. Today it is famous for its international film festival and Zombie walk in October as well as an amazing carnival in February and plenty of other festivals such as Fiesta Mayor in August and Santa Tecla in September when the town puts on incredible fire works, local dancing, human towers and fire dragons accompanied by wonderful samba bands and drummers. In June there is the crazy celebration of summer, San Juan when everyone lights fireworks and enjoy parties on the beaches. In March there is the Vintage Car Rally when classic cars drive from Barcelona to Sitges and in June there is the Corpus Christi Flower Festival when the pavements are all decorated with carpets of fresh flowers. There is something for everyone here!
